Getting Ready

"Emily, what is taking you so long?" Matt asked as he walked into the break room. "We have to meet your parents at 8; it is now 5:10 which means we should have been left the office 10 minutes ago."
"But I just poured myself a fresh new cup of coffee." Emily replied. Matt just gave her a look "alright, I'm ready, I'm just not looking forward to this night"
"Oh yes because I am" Matt said sarcastically
Lia rolled her eyes at both of them "Stop being a bunch of babies and suck it up." she said
"That's easy for you to say" Emily said
"Ok tell you want, I'm going to Sloans tonight" Lia said
"Thanks for rubbing that in" Matt said
"Would you let me finish" Lia said "What if I call you around 10ish pretending to be Cheryl with a fake situation. If the meal is going alright you can ignored me, if not it's a way out"
"And what will it cost me?" Matt asked sarcastically
"Deal" Emily said
"Em" Matt replied
"But can you aim more for 9:30?" Emily asked
"Sure" Lia replied
"Ok now we should have been left fifteen minutes ago, can we please leave?" Matt said
"Ok, OK Let's go" Emily said.
An hour later, Matt and Emily were home getting ready for the dinner. Emily was in the bathroom putting the final touches on her make up. "There I'm ready" she said to herself, she gave herself one last look in the mirror before heading to the bedroom to see if Matt was ready.
"Matt, are you ready?" Emily asked as she entered the bedroom, what she saw, she couldn't help but laugh, Matt was having a serious disagreement with his tie and the tie was winning.
"Having some trouble?" Emily said still laughing
"Funny. I hate these things" Matt said who had his back turned to Emily
"Here let me help you" Emily said. Matt turned around; he took one look at his girlfriend and gasped
"WOW! Em, you look amazing" he said making Emily blush.
"Thanks, there all done." She said finishing with his tie "you don't look half bad yourself"
Matt wrapped his arms around her and leaned in for a kiss. "How about we skip dinner" Matt said with a smirk as he started to kiss Emily's neck.
"Matt, we can't skip dinner" Emily said
"I know, but we can be late" Matt said still holding Emily in his arms.
"No we can't." Emily said "come on" she said moving from his grasp and walking over to get her shawl and wrapped it around her shoulders.
"Ok, ok" Matt agreed. They finished getting ready and headed to the restaurant.
Emily flicked though the various radio stations for the hundredth time as Matt was driving to La Champion. "Em, you are started to make me more nervous. Quit it" Matt said
"Sorry" Emily said finally shutting of the radio altogether "Matt, just to warn you my dad is going to ask you what your intentions are"
"My intentions?" Matt asked
"Yeah with me" Emily said "like where is this relationship headed, marriage that sort of thing"
"Did we not have this conversation?" Matt asked
"Yes and I feel the same way you do, I'm not ready to get marry and I don't know if I ever will, I like the way things are between us. I'm just telling you to expect the topic to come up, probably within the first five minutes of shaking his hand." Emily replied "oh and expect the topic of children to come from my mother."
"Children" Matt said
"Yes children" Emily replied
"You know I love you but you can't even keep a goldfish alive" Matt said tensing Emily
Emily rolled her eyes "Ok you know what I'll handle it and last tip don't bring up Allison" she warned
"OK" Matt agreed "we're here, ready for this?" he asked
"Nope not at all" Emily replied taking a deep breathe
"I'll be right next to you" Matt said taking her hand "so are we going to get out of the car?"
Emily opened the car door; Matt put his arm around Emily's shoulders as they walked into the restaurant.
They were greeted by the hostess "Good evening, do you have reservations?" she asked
"It should be under Lehman" Emily replied
"Yes follow me, the rest of your party has already arrived" She said politely
They followed the hostess towards their table. Once they rounded the corner, Matt could see that a young woman was sat at their table, she reminded him of Emily. "Jenny, I thought you couldn't make it" Emily said once they sat down to the table.
"Change of plans, mom and dad threaten to come to San Francisco next week so I figured at least this way I won't have to face them alone" Jenny replied
Emily rolled her eyes "Matt this is my sister Jenny, Jenny this is Matt" Jenny and Matt shake hands and said a polite hello "where is mom and dad?" Emily asked
"Bathroom" Jenny replied
Just then an older couple walked over to the table and sat down "Emily, it is so nice to see you again" her mother said
"Mom and dad, this is Matt. Matt, this is my parents, Richard and Katherine Lehman." Emily said
Matt and Emily's parents shook hands and they settle down for what was going to be life changing dinner.
