Chapter Five:
Drunken Confessions
"So how was the game? Emily asked the guys as she, Lucy and Lia slid into the booth they were sat in at Sloans.
"It wasn't that good" Frank said
"Yeah, we had lousy seats and the game sucked" Matt said trying to hide his smile
"Liars" Emily said
"It was the Dodgers, of course it was awesome" Duff replied. Matt and Frank glared at him "what? She's not an idiot"
Emily rolled her eyes at them "Thanks for trying to lie to me" she said
"No problem" Matt said putting his arm around Emily "how was shopping?"
"It was an interesting day. I got a dress, shoes, and jewelry, all of which I will never use again. But today is over and now it is time for alcohol" Emily said "Frank and Lucy, what to do tequila shots with me?"
"You don't have to ask me twice." Frank said
"I'm in" Lucy replied
"I'm in too." Lia replied
"I'll go get them" Frank said
"Have you girls eaten anything?" Matt asked
"We had lunch" Lia replied "around 1ish"
"And now its 9:30, you girls are going to be so drunk and sick" Matt warned
Hours and more then a dozen drinks later, no one at the booth was feeling any pain. Emily was particularly hammered. "Matt, let me out; I have to go to the bathroom" Emily said
"Are you alright?" Matt asked her. He was concerned about her, she usually didn't drink this much.
"Yes, I have to pee." Emily replied. Matt got up to let her out. The moment Emily stood up she realized how drunk she was; she had to hold on to the booth to keep herself up. "Ok I'm officially cut off"
"Are you going to make it?" Frank asked laughing
"I'll go with her" Lia said
"And I'll call a cab" Matt said
"Good plan" Emily said. As Lia and her headed for the bathroom.
An hour later, the cab pulled up to their place. Matt paid the driver and helped Emily out of the cab and up the stairs into the house. Once inside, Emily wrapped her arms around Matt's neck and kissed him. Matt quickly returned the kiss and wrapped his strong arms around her waist. They finally broke the kiss and came up for air. Emily smiled at Matt "I love you" she said
"You are drunk" Matt said taking her hand and walking over to sit on the couch
"I still love you" Emily said again
"I know I love you too Princess." Matt said leaning in for another kiss.
"Just remember that on Wednesday" Emily said
"Don't worry, I make a great first impression, your parents will love me" Matt said
"No they won't. They’ll hate you" Emily replied cuddling up with Matt
"You are not helpful" Matt said
"Its Ok, I'm used to them hating everything in my life that is important to me. Plus if they like you, it would be a huge turn off" Emily said
"So I should be happy that your parents are going to hate me" Matt said pulling Emily into another kiss.
A little while later, Matt and Emily are cuddle into each other, "Tell me about your family" Matt said
"Ok, I'm drunk enough to tell you but you have to let me get though this without interruptions. I come from a well to do family. Basically my parents are rich." Emily said Matt gave her a look; he had no idea that Emily had money. "Let me clarify, my parents has money not me I lost my inheritance the day I joined the FBI not that I really care. My father is a respected corporate lawyer and I guess my mom would be a stay at home mom. However, she never really stayed at home, my entire childhood my dad was at work and my mom was being social, she always had something to do, go to the gym, spa, and than she had her social obligations or whatever else got her out of the house. I saw more of the nannies and maids than I did my parents. I remember being about five years old. Jen was probably a little over one and she called the nanny mommy. However, that stuff never really bothered me. I wanted their approval so badly; I did exactly as I was told. Allison was the rebellions one and that's the way it was for a long time. I also wanted to be just like my big sister, minus the attitude problem, I wanted to do everything Ally did. When Ally was ten she joined gymnastics, I wanted to go to gymnastics too but I was only six and my parents felt I was too young. However, when I turned ten, my mom signed me up for gymnastics with the same coach that Ally had and still had at that point. When Ally found out she flipped and told me I couldn't go. I remember getting into a huge fight with her. I thought she didn't want her little sister tagging along in her life. I called her so many mean names; I told her she was being selfish. When my parents got home that night from whatever function they had been attending, Ally went to them and told them the truth. I was supposed to be in bed but I was really listening from the steps. Allison told my parents that the coach of her gymnastics' lessons had been sexually molesting her for the past four years and they could not sent me because he would do the same to me. My parents, the same people I wanted approval from that I believed were these great people, turned to their fourteen year old daughter who just told them this horrible thing and they told her, she was a lair and on the off chance something did happen between the Coach and Ally, than she had asked for it because she was nothing more than a slut anyhow. Allison was devastated at their reaction; she never got over any of it. From that moment, I saw who my parents really were and I no longer wanted their approval and I no longer wanted to be them. I remember when I was twelve I had been at the library doing a social studies project, Allison was baby-sitting Jenny because my parents were at the country club again, when I got home Jenny, barely seven came out and said to me "Emmy, Ally went to sleep and I can't wake her." Allison had taken a bottle of ibuprofen and had drank half a bottle of wine. I know it was a suicide attempt and there were many more to follow but my parents convinced the doctors it was an accident. And then I got yelled at because I called 911 instead of letting my sister die. Ally eventually fell into the wrong crowd and got into drugs, she left when she turned eighteen with some guy. For awhile she kept in touch with Jenny and I but than we lost contact. My parents never really cared where she was, they would tell all of their friends that Allison was studying abroad. I wanted out, my parents and I barely spoke after Allison left and school for me was a nightmare so I decided to take extra courses in high school so I could graduate a year early. The day I got accepted to Cornell should have been the happiest day of my life but when I told my parents they told me I wasn't allow to go. That our family had endear enough disgrace with Allison and I had to get married because that's what proper ladies do. We had a huge fight and I made a few remarks that upset my dad, he backhanded me. It was the first and last time another person ever hit me and I didn't hit back. Jenny saw the whole thing from the stairs; I guess that was the day she lost her respect for them. I packed my bags and left. I remember as I walked out the door my dad yelled "Emily Elizabeth Lehman, if you walk out that door, don't ever come back" and I never. I spend the remainder of my senior year with my Nan and Pop Green, mothers' parents. I used my trust fund that my Nan and Pop Lehman had put in place for me when I was born to pay for Cornell and my Nan and pop Green helped me as best as they could then I got scholarships and worked a part time job to put myself through Princeton, I didn't want anything from my parents and I haven't needed anything from than since I was seventeen expect I needed them for my background check when I joined the FBI and I figured for sure they tell the interviewers I was nuts but they never, they just took me out of their will. So that's it" Emily said
Matt didn't know what to say, he couldn't believe everything that Emily had told him. He wrapped his arms around her and held her tight. "What happen to the coach?" Matt asked
"He molested more girls than just Allison, maybe a year after Allison told my parents, another girl came out and made a complain to my knowledge he's in prison." Emily replied
"Can I ask you something else?" Matt questioned
"Yeah" Emily said
"Why are we having dinner with them?" Matt asked. After all Emily just told him, he wasn't sure he really wanted to meet these people.
"For the past six months, my parents have been trying to be part of my life again. But I have annoyed them. But like I said before my mother is a fantastic negotiator, she told me that she was going to see me on this trip no matter what. If I didn't go to dinner with dad and her, they would come and see me at work and there was no way I was letting that happen so it was dinner. And you got roped into this because you answered the phone, my parents didn't even know I was in a relationship and I liked it that way." Emily replied
"I love you" Matt told her kissing her on top of her head
"I love you too" Emily said "do me a favor"
'Anything" Matt said
"Just hold me tonight and promise me you won't let me go" Emily said
"Never" Matt said holding her tightly as they both fall asleep.
