Chapter Four:

Finding Out the Truth

    The rain had started to poor as Emily and Matt pulled up to the Sanchez's house.  Emily had managed to convince Murphy and Johnson to stay back at the office to take another look at the evidence collected from the abandoned building, Emily really wanted to asked Mrs. Sanchez some questions without them tagging along.
     

    "You really think Kelly Sanchez had something to do with Isabella's disappearance?" Matt asked as he pulled the SUV into park.
   

     "I don't know but I know she lied to us and in my experience you only lie when you have something to hide." Emily replied
   

     "I don't disagree but remember we don't want them to feel like suspects, all we need is for them to call their lawyer, we won't get an inch near them with Dawson around" Matt warned her
   

     Emily smiled "I know what I'm doing" she replied opening the SUV's door and heading up to the front door, Matt followed her. Emily knocked once, twice, three times. Finally little Ella opened the door.
   

    "Hey sweetie, is your mother home?" Emily asked the little girl. She nodded her head and went back into the house and returned with her mom.
   

    "Hello Mrs. Sanchez, can we ask you some follow up questions?" Emily asked in a polite tone
   

    "Of course." Mrs. Sanchez said letting Emily and Matt into the house "Do you have any leads on Isabella?"
   

    "Sort of" Matt said
   

     Mrs. Sanchez led them to the den, Ella following her mother. "Sorry about her" She said picking up her daughter "she hasn't left my side since Isabella, she hasn't said a word either." Mrs. Sanchez looked very worried as she spoke.
   

    "Ella has been through a traumatic ordeal, it's her way of dealing with everything that's going on" Emily explained "Just give her some time"
  

    Mrs. Sanchez nodded her head and gave Emily a warm smile  "You said you had a lead on Izzie" Mrs. Sanchez said
   

    "This is more of a private conversation" Matt stated
   

    Mrs. Sanchez nodded she called out for Adrian and sent Ella along with her brother "should I call Dennis? He's at work" She sighed "he can't sit around here just waiting for the phone to ring. He says he needs to do something" Mrs. Sanchez said

"No there is no need to call Mr. Sanchez" Matt said
   

    Emily pulled out the photos she had of the doll, "Mrs. Sanchez do you recognize the doll in the picture?" she asked
   

    "That's Gracie face, how did you get that?" She asked
   

    "It was found in an abandoned building downtown, Izzie was there. I know this is hard but Mrs. Sanchez, I need you to explain to me how the kidnapper was able to get this doll when you've already told Agent Murphy and Johnson that you didn't let her have it outside that day and in your statement you said that you were outside with the children when Izzie was taken." Emily said. She noticed Mrs.' Sanchez's hesitation "please Kelly, we need to know the truth in order to find Isabella." She pleased
   

    Kelly took a deep breathe and the tears started to roll down her cheeks as she said "I didn't hurt my little girl if that's what you think" `
   

    "No one thinks that" Matt stated "we're just trying to find the truth"
   

    "It's essential to know the truth. Kelly whoever took Isabella knew her. Please tell us what happen that day, Izzie's life might just depend on it" Emily said stressing the last part.
   

    Kelly nodded her head "Dennis was working as usual and the kids had a play date with the Andersons up the street. Jamie Andersons was going to take her two kids and mine to the zoo. So I had made plans with her husband Travis who I had been sleeping with. But their youngest ended up getting sick so they couldn't  go.  Neither of us wanted to cancel our plans so Travis told Jamie he had to go to the office for a couple of hours and he came over here. I didn't want my kids to see so I told Izzie to play outside with her brother and sister while I did some housework. Travis and I went down to the basement to do it, I wanted to make sure if any of the kids came inside they wouldn't walk in on us. We weren't downstairs more than an half hour when Ella came in crying saying that Izzie was gone. And well you know the rest" Kelly replied while the tears continued to flow down her cheeks. "I guess whoever took her could have walked upstairs to get the doll, we wouldn't have heard them down in the basement.
   

    Emily and Matt looked at each other "I know what you're thinking" Kelly said "I feel so guilty, I was having sex while my child was being taking from me."
   

    "Kelly this is not your fault" Emily said "Do you think Jamie could have..." She started to say
   

    "Jamie wouldn't hurt Izzie. Neither she or Dennis knew what was going on and if Jamie did find out she would come after me not the kids" Kelly stated
   

    "OK, can you think of anyone else that might what to hurt Izzie?" Matt asked
   

    Kelly shook her head no and they could hear Ella whimpering at the door for her mother "Go to her" Emily said "We have enough for now"
   

    Kelly nodded "Do you think Isabella is alive?" She asked
   

    "We have reason to believe so" Matt replied
   

    "Are you going to tell Dennis about the affair?" I don't think I can handle losing my husband too" Kelly said
   

    "If it has nothing to do with the investigation than I won't say a word. I just needed to find out the truth" Emily said.
   

    And with that Emily and Matt left and headed back to the office with the truth.
