Chapter one:

Nightmares

Matt looked out the window of his house for the tenth time since Emily went for her run down on the beach, he did not want to admit it but he was actually watching for her. It would be getting dark soon and he hated the idea of her being out at night but he knew she would be back before it got to dark. She had not told him but Matt just knew that she was having trouble dealing with everything that had happen with Marshall. Heck he was having trouble dealing with it, so he could not imagine what she was going through. He also knew that things would not be normal between them for awhile but he didn’t expect it to be like this. Emily didn’t talk to him anymore, she would just lock herself away in the room and mope around all the time. He didn’t really expect Emily to open up about what happen at the farmhouse but to completely shut him out and not talk to him at all hurt. He caught a glimpse of Emily running up the drive way so he went and sat down on the couch and turned on the T. V. The door open and Emily came into the house. She walked up to the stairs and entered the den to find Matt watching TV.

“Hey, how was the run?” Matt asked

“Fine” She answered and walked on pass and entered the bedroom

And that was it, that would probably be the extent of their conversation for the rest of the night. However, bad things were right now between them, Matt knew it always could be worse. Emily could have not been there at all, Marshall could have took her from him. The idea floated across his mind and his whole body gave an involuntary shiver at that idea. Also, whatever was going on with Emily, she was choosing to stay here at his place. Technically she still had her own apartment, they had talked about her moving in before Marshall. But now even though she could go days without talking to him she was still choosing to spend all of her time at his place which meant something.

Matt fall asleep on the couch, something he had been doing a lot lately. He wanted nothing more than to crawl into bed with Emily and wrap his arms around her to let her know she was safe but Matt knew she wasn’t ready for that. So he would either fall asleep on the couch or crash into the spare bed. Matt tossed and turned, the room was dark, it took a moment for him to realized where he was. Matt was going down the stairs that lead to the cellar at the farmhouse. He opened the door, he was searching for Emily, where was she? Matt entered the cellar and there she was. He was too late. Her body laid limp and she was covered in blood. And there was Marshall standing over the body, laughing. Matt woke up with a sudden jump, he took a deep breath, it was only a nightmare, he keep telling himself but he could not shake the image of Emily’s lifeless body. That’s when he heard a scream come from the bedroom.

*******************************************************************************************************************************
The room was dark, Emily couldn’t see anything. She had no idea where she was but it look slightly familiar. Stairs suddenly appeared and Emily started to walk down them. The smell of bleach was overwhelming. She got to the bottom of the stairs and the lights automatically came on. She knew where she was. She was in the cellar she turned back around to run back up the stairs but she couldn’t. Her feet were frozen in spot. She looked around and her eye caught something in the corner. There lay Julia’s dead body. Even though Julia was obviously dead, she sat up and started to talk to Emily. “Why didn’t you save me? You said you would save me” and than she disappeared and Marshall appeared. He grabbed Emily and tossed her to the ground, he lay on top of her, she started to fight but her entire body was frozen than suddenly she heard a bang and Marshall started to bleed all over her.

“Emily, Emily. Wake up, its just a dream” Matt said shaking her.

Emily open her eyes and instead of Marshall she saw Matt. It took her a moment for it to register she wasn’t actually in the cellar but really in Matt’s apartment.

She took a deep breath and realized that Matt was looking at her. “I’m fine” she lied “It was just a dream.”

“Are you sure?” Matt asked he knew she wasn’t, he could still see her hands shaking.

“Yes I’m sure” She replied crudely “so either go back to the couch or get into bed. We have work in the morning”

Matt gave her a look, he wasn’t sure if she really wanted him to get into the bed with her. “Are you sure?” He asked again

“Please Matt I just don’t want to sleep alone tonight” she confessed

Matt crawled into bed with her and put his arms around her waist. Hopefully now both could sleep soundly without any nightmares.
